A small nuclear reactor like a battery that economically supplies carbon-free electricity to about 20,000 households for 40 years
Greetings
Dear Stakeholders:
MicroURANUS is a micro nuclear reactor with 20 MWe power rating that has been developed by Seoul National University and Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology over the last 20 years, in order to help curtail the global warming. I would like to introduce this innovative technology of the Korea’s first private SMR company.
MicroURANUS is an indigenous Lead-cooled Fast Reactor (LFR) that emerged through creative destruction of the lead-bismuth cooled nuclear submarine technology of the former Soviet Union. In Europe, LFR takes the center stage of sustainable nuclear power, surpassing competing Sodium Fast Reactors (SFRs) and Molten Salt Reactors (MSRs), as France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Sweden, and Romania have embraced this transformative technology while RF prepares the startup of world’s first commercial LFR in 2026.
Among innovative LFR technologies, MicroURANUS stands out as a beacon of excellence in safety, nuclear security, and environmental friendliness. Our ground-breaking technology of 40 years operation without refueling, thereby, resolves the global dilemma of spent fuel management.
As we move forward on this exciting journey, I humbly seek your unwavering support and keen interest in the pursuit of global carbon neutrality. With your encouragement and our steadfast commitment to excellence, we envision MicroURANUS leading the charge in shaping a sustainable and prosperous future.
Thank you all for your time and trust. We endeavor to pave the way for Korea to become one of world-leading nuclear energy states.
Best Wishes!
Dr. Il Soon Hwang
